Liz has more than 25 years' experience as a writer, editor and public relations consultant. Recognised both in Australia and overseas for her expertise in regional and rural communications, she has also worked with city and peri-urban communities on campaigns that aim to raise awareness and drive behaviour change, particularly in relation to water and environmental issues.
Liz has won numerous awards, including four prestigious Golden Target Awards from the Public Relations Institute of Australia. A Churchill Fellow, she travelled to six countries studying communication tools and strategies which encourage farmers to take up new technology and improve farm management practices.
Her skills include strategic planning, marketing communications, community-based social marketing, community engagement and consultation, crisis and issues management, media liaison and training, event management, and writing, editing and photography.
Liz has worked in a broad range of settings, from government agencies and leading multi-national corporations, to small business and community organisations, including the Australian Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Murray-Darling Basin Commission, Dairy Australia, Meat & Livestock Australia, Horticulture Australia Limited, the Grains Research and Development Corporation, Elders, Wrightson Seeds, Sports Shear Australia, Water Proofing Adelaide, HorsesLandWater, Alltech, Mike Stephens & Associates, the Environment Protection Authority (SA), the Department of Water, Land and Biodiversity Conservation and SA Water.
Liz is president of the Australian Council of Agricultural Journalists, and sits on the executive of the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists. She has worked both as a freelance and full-time journalist for regional, metropolitan, rural and overseas newspapers and magazines. A former executive member of the Australasian Pacific Extension Network (APEN). she is also a staff associate of the Agricultural Communications Documentation Centre, a highly-regarded international resource based at the University of Illinois in the United States.
A former director of the public relations consultancy Porter Novelli Adelaide, Liz today works as a freelance journalist, consultant and author. Her first book, The Blue Ribbon Cookbook (Wakefield Press 2008) was runner-up in the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, announced in Paris in July, 2009. The best-seller captures the stories and recipes of prize-winning country show cooks and the traditions of country shows. Liz is currently working on a follow-up version.
